Deep in the land of Twitter and rock stars.
I never thought I'd get into Twitter, but alas... I couldn't resist. The main reason I decided to try Twitter out is because I wanted to experiment with my Vox sidebar widget. The entire application turned into a small phenomenon with me overnight. I had remembered Twitter being mentioned all over Vox, so I thought I'd give the cute site a shot. Who knew how fun updating my status could be? I knew everything was meant to be when I saw that the user name "milks" was up for grabs.
My milks Twitter is now up and running, and my sidebar looks all nice and pretty with the widget. I am one happy Voxer.
For anyone that isn't familiar with what Twitter is, check out the main Twitter page to browse the current happenings or to sign up. Either way, I think you'll find yourself having a good time with all the kawaii icons displayed all over the place. I didn't know that Twitter was so popular in Asia, but from the looks of it, more people are signed up for the application there than in the states. o_O
Before I put up my Twitter widget in my sidebar, I wanted to make sure every single detail on my Twitter profile page looked just right. I had been home the day I set up my account, and none of my parents' computers have Photoshop on them. (I didn't feel like downloading a trial version.) Instead, Shawn was nice enough to follow the layout I drew up. The sketch involved Twitter's basic layout, Roonies and Meep, and lots of pretty bubbles. Whenever I have a profile or a descriptive area on website, I have to make sure it's absolutely perfect as far as design goes.
Unfortunately, how my background image appears on Twitter depends on the screen resolution on the computer it's being viewed from. So, depending on your computer screen, my profile could either look kickass or only "eh."
Edit: I forgot to mention that adding a Twitter widget in my sidebar required me to edit the dimensions in order to make sure the entire application fit without getting cut off on the edges. If you're interested in adding a Twitter widget (or any other widget that's slightly oversized), all you have to do is change the length or width to smaller numbers. There were two places in my widget's embed code that needed to be changed, and I believe I used the width of 160px to make mine fit nicely into my sidebar. Message me for more information on how to change the dimensions if you're having difficulties. ^_^
In other news, the Lovedrug video that Beth went to Chicago for a few months ago was finally released! (You can hear more about her experience in this post.) I was shocked when I first saw the video, because there's a clip in the very beginning of the song that is focused directly on Beth's face. She winks at the camera and smiles-- it couldn't be more perfect. My little sister is a true Lovedrug star. At least, she is in my eyes. So, without further delay, here's Lovedrug's newest music video, "Pushing the Shine," featuring my totally awesome sister, Beth.
Comments
I saw Lovedrug open for the Plain White Ts awhile back... I wasn't really too enthused by either performance but it might have just been an off night.
I can't do things like Twitter because then I update them obsessively -- "Cici is cleaning her room." (Cut to 5 minutes later) -- "Cici is twiddling her thumbs." Haha.
Aaaand...I can't wait for that even you're talking about! I'm excited.
I have heard about Twitter for what seems like decades but I never really found it for me especially the “what am I doing..”, I’m still alive would be an awfully boring update daily or even hourly and I don’t think its on the who cares list for me!
But I am glad it works for you and its nice to know how you are and that everything is ok with you! Especially with work and the less time for a blog but to drop a quick line to say what’s going on in your day, life, mind.
As for Beth and the video damn she’s a cutie, music/acting career?
*btw missed u *
Thankies for the congrats to Beth, and I'm sure you'll especially love what I have planned in the next few weeks. ^^
Haha, I think the exact reason why you don't like Twitter is the exact reason why I do like the site. For some reason, the idea of updating ridiculously petty things going on in my daily life is appealing. I love it!
You're right about it being easier to update Twitter more often than my blog. I tend to spend a long time writing up blog entries, not to mention the photos I take for the blog entries. That's why I tend to post only once every few days/weeks. Twitter is a nice way to keep in touch with my online friends in between my posts. ^___^
Beth was in a rock band for a while, but it didn't last very long. (She was the lead singer.) I think that she would have stuck with it for longer if it weren't for other members. Drama ensues with music and the pressure of doing well. Too bad people can't just have fun, heh.
Sakura- Yay, I added you, too. ^^
Barb- Definitely add me. If I don't see an invite from you, I'll just track your account down and add you instead. =D
Jeff- Thankies for the congrats. Beth and I are extremely happy with the new place we found. We'll be able to move into it in September, which means we have to live for a month with my parents in August. *cries* I don't know if I'll be able to survive there.
Nicole- I'm glad I could be of service. I'll add you back on Twitter!
milkypink- I think I'll eventually try posting to Twitter with my phone. I'm not sure if I'll be able to with the crappy cell I have now, haha, but we'll see. I'll be adding you back, sweets.
Leigh- Thanks so much-- it was so Beth to wink like that. She looks extra mischievous in the video.
toxic_honey- I'm not surprised you haven't heard of Twitter. I don't think it's promoted as much as some other sites out there. I'm sure it'll pick up more eventually. ^__^
I know because of the one band I was with the music was great as good or better then so many bands out their but and its always a but they had real jobs and real jobs with real money coming in kept them from being anything more then a great sounding band that would never go anywhere if it interfered in job and life…too bad eh!
Misty- *hugs* I always love seeing comments from you, because they're rare (and very valuable, mwa ha). I'll tell Beth you said hi. She asks about you once in a while, and I try to give her updates when I can. I told my mom and Beth how proud of you I was with how your nursing is going. Seriously, I felt like a mom talking about how her kid made the honor roll!
I added you on Twitter. I'm boring on Twitter too though, ha - sorry!
How cool is your sister? I'd be way too scared to appear in a video.
Thanks for introducing it. :)
Lovedrug music video is AWESOME, I like the music...and your little sister Beth, she Rock!
Her- Thankies for the add. I'll add you back, hon. I don't know if I could be in a video either. I have confidence, but I don't think I have that much confidence in myself to stand in front of a camera and wink, haha. That's one more thing to admire about Beth.
Kenn- Haha, I don't know how I get sleep. Actually, I haven't been able to get more than four hours a sleep every night lately, so that explains something!
Kim- I'm glad I could help Twitterize you. =p It's a fun site to use. I think you'd like it.
*cough*
And a letter with some Moo cards might just be sitting on my desk, waiting to be mailed today (or tomorrow).
*cough*
And Congrats to Beth for the music video! It's great, I saw her right away, as well as a few times towards the end. Looks like she had a blast. =)
vu
Yay, I'm glad you liked my layout. I worked really hard at designing it. I was going crazy without Photoshop, so poor Shawn had to listen to my every demand (and order). I even went and found the hex codes for the exact colors I wanted him to use. It's nice to be back at my apartment with my own Photoshop now. Definitely try to make a layout-- or just a background. It makes Twitter life even more fun.
I thought it was funny how you can see flashes of Beth's orange hair in the music video. She really stands out to me, and I thought it was neat that you were able to pick her out, too. Tee hee. ^___^
Cyn- I was just thinking about you, actually. I saw someone with the name "Cin" around Vox, and I thought it might be you, but then I remembered the Y in your name. Anyway, I'm happy to see you on Twitter. I shall add you right back.
Gamany- Yeah, I liked the song more than I thought I would. Then again, I'm probably biased, haha.
Pixie- Oh man, I try! I'm actually a lot lazier than I come across on Vox. ^__~
peace
And no, it's not too late to get a Moo card! I just mailed out a batch of them today, but I have a good amount more. If you see this comment, just let me know if there's a specific one you have your eye on. If I don't hear from you soon, I'll just message and ask. A lot of people just wanted to be surprised with a random one, so that's an option, too!
afrogeek360 is my Jaiku account
I loved the image you used for your Twitter page, Roonies is so cute <3 I really like the colors you chose! and I saw Beth on the video, I loved that wink at the camera, she looked cool. =]
P.S. I'm excited about the upcoming event & can't wait to see what you're up to, girlie!
I see the value of Twitter, but I don't use my celly much, which would add to the value of it a lot. That, and dexterous fingers to type on those tiny numeric keys! ^^
Seems you should have a laptop luv... the new, more powerful ones are getting much more affordable. Maybe get a better price through your school? Dell is the easiest choice. I just bought one, and I am out here sitting on the porch writing this to you (Wi-Fi) ;)
Maybe VOX could automate some of the more common widget setups? Maybe do a little "you scratch my back" thing between Twitter and VOX?
I added my Radio Blog to my widget. Had to play around to get it where you could scroll to the edges. You can also make it a pop up window that keeps working even after you leave the page... Perhaps VOX should let you adjust the sizes of the panels (within reason)?
I am pretty happy that VOX *doesn't* let you go mad changing things. That is a strength, I think - that you can count on everyone's page being fairly consistent. So many other sites let you change *everything* including menu bars, ect. and that's a pain in the ass, trying to find things and navigate people's pages on the same blogging software! We won't eve bring up the "ransom note" type faces and garish colors!! lol They had it right when they conceptualized what VOX should be. Most of us don't want to be programmers just to have a page that looks good and communicates well. It has a attracted a great group of people too - that should tell you something... :)
