Aw Lauren, this post was so cool! I really enjoyed reading it. I love how you break things down. You never leave questions unanswered. I can't wait til you get your new cam! What brand are you going to get?
[this is good]
great post covering lots of ground.
[this is good]
It's pretty funny that your blog on the fledgling Vox already needs an FAQ. You're a popular 21 year-old Wisconsinian. Wisconsion? Wisconsinite?

...person from Wisconsin.
thanks for all the information! i wondered about some of these things and now i know :)

Breaking things down has become a habit... a really good habit, haha. I've learned to do that in papers that I write, so I figure that I should apply it to my Vox as well. I always feel like I'm forgetting to tell people something. Plus, it'll be easier redirecting people to this post instead of repeating myself. ^_~

I'm planning on getting a Canon for sure. (I really think that Canon produces the best results-- at least, from my experiences.) I've narrowed it down to two cameras, both of which are extremely good. I'll surprise you after I get it and let you know then! <3

Hahaha, all of the above? I've heard "Wisconsinite" the most. I think it sounds funny but I use it, too. I don't know how I feel about being called popular, haha. I just like people here at Vox so I try to communicate with them the best ways possible. =D And that means I do crazy things like making FAQ sections. Mwa ha.
thanks for letting us all know about the little things about you. :)
WHOA. I didn't know you were 21. wow. I thought you were like 16 or 17.
im just amazed that you need to do something like this...its unreal.
[this is good]
This was quite entertaining to read... as your posts always are. =D

Yeah, I look young. It annoys me now (because I still get carded for silly things) but everyone tells me that I'll love it later on. I think they're right.

I was going to add that confusiong about the age thing in there. Thanks for the reminder, tee hee.

Haha, really? I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I like my Vox to stand out a little so I guess that's one reason I made this post. Plus, this is easier writing than repeating myself in PM's and comments.
[this is good]
lauren, great post. just enough info to keep your readers happy without crossing that "internet privacy" line so many crazies like to exploit. (what am i saying, i have my phone number on my website! but that's for business.)

anyways, hope you're having a good end-of-semester . . . have you gotten any more snow yet? we actually had snow here in DC on thursday night - just flurries - but we saw it when we went outside to make an entrance for the Revels show, and man, did it make the night feel so special! i wish DC wasn't so far from you . . . i think you'd love our show.
I love the bracelet concept - it's SO sweet! :) What a great blog entry! ox Thank you for sharing!
[this is good]
"...but I think that making a career out of designing fun graphics would somehow ruin my passion for creating them."
I think that's sums it up for me as well. I have found out about myself this year I am more of a tech ethusist than wanting to work on computers for a living. I love finding and sharing new website, new applications. Keeping it a "heavy hobby" hit the nail on the head. I think web browsing, blogging is my main outlet. If I had to choose between having cable and having the internet...it's the latter hands down and twice on Sunday.

i always wanted to know your nationality but never asked. yeah, might be an asian thing to why you look young. im 22 and my hairdresser thought i was 15 in highschool. lol. and that's sweet of shawn to do with hte bracelets.
[this is good]
Its amazing that your pictures are so consistently great given that most were taken with a 3.2 mp camera.

I can relate to you getting people who think dolls are for kids only, I have a small collection of anime inspired figures which most people think are for kids too, welcome to North America the land where no one gets it, lol.

I am also half Polish, the other half being Canadian, given that from my dad's side I'm 7th generation Canadian I can't see that they were originally either English or French matters anymore. Though up till a couple of years ago the Census bureau of Canada didn't recognize Canadian as a nationality, isn't that the ultimate governmental stupidity?!?

Anyways hope you continue to post your photos and thoughts for a long time

Jeff
This was fun to read, Lauren. Thanks for answering my question about the bracelets, hehe. I really like them, I was surprised to read that Shawn made them for you! That's so sweet of him, and really cool that you never take them off. From what I read, I have to agree with your mom when she said you two have something special. And I love that you know you'll marry Shawn, but that you aren't rushing into marriage. So many people are in such a hurry, but just knowing you love each other is enough for you, and that's great. You two are so lucky to have something like that, especially at such a young age. You've got a great head on your shoulders (as my dad would say, lol).
<3 Ah, you're so sweet, Jen. I commented at your Vox in response.

Great way for us to know more about you, Laure!

=)

I hope you get your camera soon.

[this is good]
I love your dolls and all your pictures, you are very talented

I've learned to make the best of what I have, and that means make a 3.2 megapixel camera look like much more. =D Plus, I think it all depends on the composition and the artist's eye-- those really make the photos.

Whoa, I didn't realize that Canadian wasn't considered a personality. That's madness. That's kind of degrading to its own culture in a way. Every country goes through that kind of change at one point or another though.

Thanks so much for the compliments!

That would be so sweet of Shawn if he could make me a bracelet. ^__^ I really do love them, maybe I can look around on the internet or a craft store and see if I can find anything on making them myself. You always have such pretty jewelry and clothes. :)
[this is good]
thanks for the info...btw, you're a great writer! ;)
As a person that has had many point and shoot cameras, and now has many digital SLR's, just go out and try as many of them in person as you can. Its not so much the mega pixels that matter (unless you are printing them above about 16x20 inch), but the quality of glass, compression used by the camera and the sensor that is in the cameras.

Try looking at dpreview.com for you cameras to read some things about them and check out real users opinions. They are good people there.
I still can't believe you're only 21. From the little glimpse I have seen into your life through your postings, you seem so much older and wiser. A very mature 21!

[this is good]
this is a great read lauren, you put so much of you into your writing.
beautifully written cheesehead, you are a very interesting person, i'm glad i've gotten to know you a little bit; your always so fun! :)
[this is good]
Wow. What a great post! Thank you for letting us know a little bit more about you and your life, very interesting indeedy! :)
[this is good]
i always enjoy your posts. about #4, im actually thinking of switching majors. i've been doing art all my life and it is my passion, but im starting to wonder if im going in the graphic design field just because ive been doing it for so long and its my passion...or am i doing it for the career of it. i should write this in my blog. haha.
[this is good]
very interesting post! and i must admit, i, too, tend to be somewhat haughty towards other couple relationships...! i guess it's something that individuals in long-term relationships, like you and me, develop over time. i don't think it's necessarely a vice :P btw, i added you as a contact on flickr!
oh and i forgot to add, i knew you had to be Filipina, but i never would have guessed half Polish! amazing blend - congrats to your 'ma and 'pa! you look supa!

Thanks so much. I'll definitely be studying this page before I decide on a camera for sure. I don't want to put a lot of money into a camera that I won't be completely satisfied with. I know that I definitely want a Canon, and I've seen some amazing results from the ones I'm thinking about.

Again, thanks a lot!

Thanks, hon. <3 For some reason, I feel like I've lived a lot of lives in order to gain the belief system and common sense that I have. (I guess that's where my belief in reincarnation starts to surface.) I tend to learn from the mistakes of other people instead of having to experience them myself. That's what I get for being associated with certain people, haha.

It's best to figure the whole major thing out sooner than later. If I would have just changed my major sooner, I could graduate (possibly) on time instead of having to waste another year of my life in school. I'm sure you'll figure things out. Once you do find the right career path, you'll definitely know it. If you're questioning it, just explore some of your other options. ^_^

Art and design may be a good passion for you, but I've learned that most passions are meant for personal time. I know that if I worked in a bookstore, I could possibly start loathing the written word, haha, because I'd be surrounded by what I love every day. I like to do most of my passions during my own time. You might find that it's the same with you, too. Then again, everyone's different! <3

Thank you! That's really sweet. A lot of people find the combination of cultures really interesting. Haha, I get a lot of stares when people try to figure my background out.

I am so glad that I'm not the only haughty person in a relationship. I feel bad that I look down on others because of their choices in people they date, the mistakes they make, and the decisions they make... but it just comes naturally. I've learned to control my feelings though so I try to hold that haughtiness in, heh. (It sneaks out once in a while though.)

Well, this is going to be long. (Just to warn you)

First of all, I hope I didn't seem pushy or made you uncomfortable when I asked if we could be penpals. I suppose it's a bit of something I take for granted (that online friends would be willing to give out addresses) and sometimes I forget that not everyone else will be as open with all aspects of their lives.

Second, wow. I had no idea that people were so adverse to the idea of collecting dolls! I suppose that I've been watching Japanese culture for so long (and in the meantime getting acquainted with all sorts of collectors) that it never once struck me as odd. Does this make me more of an international sort of person?

There is an awesome book at work called Part Asian/100% Hapa. Sometimes I wish that there was a good title for all people of mixed races. I don't really like calling myself 'mixed' because then I feel like something from the blender in your glass. But I have no idea what a good phrase would be to describe someone that is native american, black and caucasian.

I wish I would've had the chance to grow up with a sibling or two. My only sibling is a paternal sister who just turned 19 and lives in the Carolinas. We've talked on the phone, but I've never even seen a photo of her. We only started communicating this past fall.
I love my DS Lite. I don't think it's weird at all that you want one even though you already have a DS... I never owned a regular DS, but I heard the graphics on the Lite's were much better. When/if you get the FFIII game, you're going to love it... I can't stop playing. I was up until 2am last night playing and trying to level up my guys. It's such a cute game, they really did an excellent job at remaking the game from it's original. You're right, this one is no different from the other ones, they're all beautiful.

Tell Shawn thank you very much for making a bracelet for me. I like all of them so you can surprise me. I do love surprises. ^^ Eee, I'm excited now! <3

Also, I'm mailing out packages today, so you should be getting it sometime early next week (or late this week, if we're lucky!). I hope it gets there all in one piece. Keep an eye out for it. ^__~
[this is good]
oh, gosh. i love this. i read a lot of faq's because i'm terribly curious by nature – which often gets me into trouble, but that's not the point.

the whole bit about the dollsies shocks me a bit. i never knew people thought it was immature to collect dolls. or maybe because most doll collectors do it to make a profit and not because they love it. i think it's pretty cool. low brow art is made of awesome, although i stick to 2D art rather than 3D. my stuffed animals are the only things allowed to take up more space than necessary. ha!

hapa – quite a term! i've seen it used around before, but i never really knew what it means.

and you and shawn, and you and your sisters are so adorable. seriously. and i guess your younger sister, is it? her highlights are pretty dang amazing. she reminds me of this girl my mom knows who owns an art/photography site. probably because she looks like her. cuh-razy!
[this is good]
It looks liek I picked a good time to finally come by and check out your "spot" I read about you a few weeks back in Elle's post about photo editing and digital photography. I feel like I was really lucky to catch this little FAQ's post, it got me started off on the right foot. I am taking an interest in photgrtaphy and phot editing also, so I decided to come check out some of my inspirations' inspirations. It was nice getting to "know" you.

Thanks for sharing that info. I really enjoyed reading all of it!

It's so cool how you've got mixed blood. I think that most kids whose parents are from two different racial backgrounds always end up good looking. =)

I'm so glad that this was fun for other people. I love being able to release a little information about myself in small doses, but I think this larger dose will help the Voxers who regularly come to my journal get a better understanding of where I am in my life. Plus, those who are curious who don't know me as well... can be redirected to this in order to do so. Thanks so much for the positive feedback, Ashley.

Yeah, you wouldn't believe some of the crap I've heard from other people. A lot of people give me criticizing questions and stares when they find out that a 21 year-old collects dolls. I find it somewhat frustrating (and immature) that others aren't open to the idea of other hobbies out there. I mean, any hobby could be labeled strange. I think everyone has the right to be interested in something that might be a little "different."

Yeah, Kathleen is sixteen now, so she's the youngest. Beth once went through a stage when she highlighted her hair with vibrant colors, and Kathleen caught the color bug and hasn't stopped dying her hair since. It really suits her and her style though. I'm sure she'll be happy to hear you like it! <3

Yay, I'm so happy you enjoyed it. ^_^ I didn't know if people minded reading through a longer post, but when personal information is involved with a friend, it's usually hard to resist. And thankies for the compliment. *blush* I've recently become more aware of my different looks. I always thought I was, well, just regular and average. I feel a little prouder to be of mixed blood now, tee hee.
Thank you so much for coming by here. I think it's fate that you ended up coming here when this post is rather new. You got the quick intro to my life! Haha, lucky you. ^_~ I really hope that you get into photography more. Mama Elle is really having fun (I think) with what she's learning. It's all trial and error until you find your own style/passion for it. If you ever need any advice, just let me know.
I love your posts. They're definitely one of the reasons I love having you in my neighborhood. This post was definitely fun to read (unlike most FAQs you get with new equipment or found on some corporate websites). Your posts are always so well written.

I definitely wondered about your nationality and assumed Filipino initially anyway. I get Filipino a lot but I'm not at all.

And you and Shawn are the cutest and sweetest ever. I love reading when you write about something you both did.
I think you are a Vox Supa star!

I'm hapa too, Wait, isn't hapa a hawaii term? I forget where youre from.

That's what I thought, too. Someone who knows more about what "hapa" is informed me I was hapa not too long ago. I asked the same thing but she told me that all mixed children (who I think are part Asian) are considered hapa.

After looking it up on Wikipedia (not always reliable, but sometimes), I found out that "hapa" is a Hawaiian term, but it means "portion, fragment, part, fraction, partial," etc. In other words, it means "mixed descent." In my case, I'm considered hapa pilipino. That's so cool!

Thanks for reminding me to look it up. ^^ I probably would have forgotten to. Here's where I got my info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hapa

[this is good]
i think it's safe to say lauren that you are just about one of the most popular gals in the vox world!
it's lovely to see you share your life on here.
no to mention, rock on that you're 21! I just turned 21 too!

p.s. we should be facebook friends, i'll send you my info laturz :)

You know, I didn't realize how much we had in common until I read this entry. I am 16 months older than my sister. I am a journalism (and teaching)major with a minor in English. Like you, writing comes so easily to me and is who I am at my very core. I also MUST have my creative outlets or I fail to exist! And I am also a cam whore, like yourself...but I stick with vintage (manual) Canons. Go us, huh!? :)

Woo, that's awesome, Tiff! I feel so special, especially hearing that from you, who knows blogs a lot better than most people. Everyone is just so wonderful here. ^__^ That's awesome that you're 21-- it's a world a difference than 20! Haha.

And I replied to your message. <3

Whoa, you're right-- we do have a lot in common. That's so cool. I think that Canons, no matter what era they're from, are just amazing. I like that we're similar, yet different. I bet manual Canons are just as fun. =D
[this is good]
Wow, all the things I wanted to know but thought to rude to ask . . . you're part psychic too I guess. We have a lot in common: Asian heritage, English majors, camera lovers. I love having a creative outlet - this past semester I wrote a term paper mimicking the style of Chaucer in Middle English . . . eet was quite badde, not veery polished but eek fun. What is your favorite "time period" of English literature?

p.s. I love your pics, could you post some sort of tutorial on how to make pictures better looking in Photoshop?

It's great to come across another English major. A lot of people I come across who are writers are usually Journalism majors (which is what I used to be until I woke up from an eternal sleep, heh). Hmm. My favorite period in English literature would have to be anywhere around the 17th Century and on. I've actually become very open to most of literature because of some amazing Comparative Literature courses I've taken, which is a huge reason why I've decided to major in Comparative Literature. A big eye-opener was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It's a beautifully complicated book and I learned so much from reading it.

I'll definitely think about posting a tutorial sometime. The only thing that makes me hesitant is that I'm not sure I'm as familiar as some of the experts are with the program. I have some personal and very particular methods that I follow and I'd feel a little funny about opening them up to everyone. I'll think about it though-- it's a great idea! If I decide not to, then I'll try to hunt down some helpful sites that have already made tutorials. ^___^

[this is good]
You should meet my friend Kir (Gema) from Spain... she's amazing with customizing dolls and such! :)

http://kir.vox.com/

Have you seen the lovely version of Pride and Prejudice (Special Edition) (1996)
Starring: Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle from A&E? Even a major plot point in Bridget Jones's Diary hehe

You might (I'm thinking) enjoy The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde Pet Dodos!! ^^

Take care and have a great holiday season!

Mike

You know Gema? =D I do, too! We met through the ThisIsBlythe forum a while back, and she sells me such beautiful Blythe hats for all my girls. I even sent her a Christmas package a few weeks ago, because she's just so sweet. I've never met her in person, but I would love to one day. She has so much talent. I try to visit her Vox regularly. ^^

I saw a few minutes of that version of Pride and Prejudice. I read the book for one of my Comparative Literature classes, and then we watched the end of the film. (I've heard that it's very long, but also that it follows the book really well.) I loved Colin Firth in it. His acting is so well done in whatever he's in. I think he was perfect for the part of Mr. Darcy...

Thanks for the recommendation of The Eyre Affair. I haven't read that yet, but I'll have to check it out. I have a good amount of gift card money for Barnes & Noble, so the timing is perfect.

Happy holidays to you, too! ^___^

I should have known that you'd know the lovely Gema already! ^^ How about Pavali from Denmark?? lol Don't know why they "adopted" me, but maybe because of the uber-cute "Princess" Emma, the daughter of an old friend of mine (Happa - 1/2 Japanese - 1/2 Irish) I've been documenting on my blog almost since her birth... Now, she has a sister Elizabeth, one year old.

I mostly post on http://www.tabulas.com/~Mikeymike/ but most of Emma's pix are friends-only... An account is free at Tabulas, so if you want too... Or, here:

http://www.tabulas.com/~MikeyMike/1338217.html

I made it public, since few peeps look backwards too far... Gema and Pavali are her "Aunties" too!

P&P is 300 minutes, but the best I've seen. I've given this one as a gift so many times! One of my all time favorites, along with the Chinese movie The Road Home (Zhang Ziyi's first film). The Eyre Affair is a hoot for the literate!

And since you've got that B&N card in your hand... have you heard of Joanne Harris?? Chocolat and Five Quarters of the Orange I'd especially recommend. Was it to you I was talking about book/films? I this case, the book is definately better than the movie - richer, more mystical. The Rachel Portman (She also did The Joy Luck Club) score is lovely though... and if you're a huge Jonny Depp fan... ^^

This was very interesting. Yes, I finally found the time to do a little reading. What a month, huh? *huggles*
I love getting to know people better that I read about on the internet. It's just fascinating. So, this post was a lot of fun to read! And I want to tell you that I share your fear of driving! I do have my license, but it's very rare that I drive now that I've moved to a big city. My poor boyfriend shuttles me everywhere.. but we usually go everywhere together anyway.. so it's not that big of a deal. So anyway, don't feel alone in your fear! <3
wow, this is good!! thanks for the info :)
Jinkies! That's a great post!
Mabuhay!!!!I was wondering what your nationality was too... I am 3/4 filipino and 1/4 "haole" which means white person in hawaiian. The haole part is german, irish, spanish, american indian. I think we as Filipinos are blessed because we tend to look younger than we really are. My boyfriend ( he's filipino/ hawaiian) and I are ALWAYS told we look younger than we really are. Great post!

"We have a set understanding between us for almost every problem that could possibly strike us. "

It is amazing that you both managed to guide through the winding and somewhat complicated route called relationship, and still very much in love after 6 years. Kudos to you both!

To be honest, this is my first time browsing Vox and your blog attracts me alot with your vivid images and fluid writing style. Your banner is indeed artistic and i'd love to try making one if you can provide me with the specs.

I'm a regular blogger as well and have been using Blogdrive in recent years, but i'm looking for something new yet simple to continue my blogging. Can you give me some tips on using Vox? Like where can i find customised templates/styles for Vox and etc?
